Al-Madinah International Airport since its opening in 1972 (1392 H) is situated North-East of Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah at a distance of 15 km from city center. The airport is witnessing an ever-increasing expansions and continuous development programs since its foundation and until to date is receiving pilgrims and visitors to the Prophet's Mosque.
The importance of Al-Madinah Airport has originated from the importance of the Holy City of Al-Madinah. As it is one of the most important airports in the Kingdom, we endeavour develop Madinah Airport as an International Airport, particularly to promote it as an "entry/exit" hub for the pilgrims and visitors to the Prophet's Mosque.
Embodying these aspirations and reassuring the stature of this holy city the official approval of the Custodian of The Two Holy Mosques are granted to convert Madinah Airport from Domestic Airport to an International Airport taking into consideration the importance of air transportation role that playing in rendering the services to pilgrims and visitors to the Prophet's Mosque.
GACA has embarked on preparing airport master plan by introducing one of the specialized consultants that takes into consideration the effective strategic factors that covers the airport needs throughout the next 25 years which expected to be accomplished very soon and to include the following works:-
A- Construction of new passenger terminals with air bridges and accessories to accommodate the increasing number of the passengers – arriving & departing on int'l. flights and domestic flights during the next (25) years as well as the existing Haj terminal expansion.
B- To increase the capacity of the airport from (400,000) passenger per month to (1,000,000) passenger the thing that assist in the one-way system complete implementation in transporting the Pilgrims and Umrah performers arriving in between Makkah and Madinah.
C- To facilitate the movement of the arrival and departure of the Haj and Umrah Pilgrims and secure their safety, comfort and offering them the best services. | |
